The meshes created using the triangulator and the quadrilateral generators may contain imperfections in the contact area of the generated point areas due to the localised point generation strategy. Some problems, such as acute angles and poor aspect ratios, often only become visible after element generation. To compensate for these deficiencies, the mesh can be subsequently smoothed (Mesh → Unbend).
When performing a smoothing step, new coordinates are calculated for each node from the centre of gravity of the n adjacent neighbouring nodes:
A node is moved to the new coordinates calculated in this way, provided that the modified elements continue to fulfil the geometric requirements in the finite element mesh. Exceptions are:
Nodes on contours,
nodes on the mesh or 3D boundary
nodes with markers (model data type MARK) are not moved).
