Kriging

The Kriging method is a generic term for stochastic interpolation methods as opposed to deterministic methods (e.g. distance weighting).

The value for an interpolation point (x, y) is determined in the Kriging method by weighting all interpolation data:

 

Let zi be the interpolation values for the n measuring points (xi, yi), i=1,...n.

The weighting coefficients λi(x, y) are not determined solely by the distance of the interpolation data from the point to be interpolated (see distance interpolation), but are calculated in a system of equations according to the similarity of the interpolation data to each other.
