The value is specified in the 1^st to 14^th columns of the model file; however, no value is required; the list of node numbers start from the 17^th column onwards. Each completed node number list forms a control line.

Control lines can be used to compute mass balance flow rates across element boundaries and element diagonals. All nodes along the control line must be defined in a list. A control line can also be closed by ending the list with the starting node. The flow rates for the individual element boundaries or element diagonals are calculated, as well as a total mass flow rate for each control line. This can be used, for example, to calculate the volume of water flowing from a specific catchment area to a production well. Any number of control lines can be defined.
