Unbending the mesh


The resulting mesh may still contain areas with "bad" elements because of the local generation strategy. Acute angles or poor aspect ratios in individual elements can be observed. The mesh can be improved with the help of the smoothing algorithm (Mesh Unbend…).

In each smoothing step, the program determines the coordinates of a node as the average of n adjoining nodes, according to:

The node moves to the new coordinates on condition that all elements fulfill the geometric requirements for the finite element mesh. Exceptions are:

nodes on contours,

nodes on the mesh or 3D boundary

nodes with markings (identification MARK).

 

None of these node types are moved.
