As part of a model investigation, it can happen that the issues within the project make three-dimensional modelling necessary due to the local conditions (e.g. geological faults, several aquifers, water extraction from deeper levels, etc.). Regardless of whether a horizontal model was originally planned or a three-dimensional model was conceived in the project from the outset, 3D models are created in SPRING on the basis of a horizontal model. It is advisable to carry out the 3D extension only after a complete geometric check of the horizontal model.

Using this training example, the procedure for creating a 3D model based on the existing model is elaborated upon.
