SHAPE-output: node/element data
Many programs, such as geographic information systems, have an interface for the SHAPE format.
It is decided in advance what data (node-or element-based) is to be exported. The input window for both species, apart from the offered data types, is identical.
A SHAPE block consists of two components in three files: the geometry information (*.shx- and *.shp-files) and the attributes in the database file (*.dbf, dBase-format). Because some programs limit the notation of the attributes to 11 characters SPRING creates a *.alias file in ASCII-format which contains the exact notations of the data sets and if necessary the information about the layer number and/or the time step.
